Data Controller

The data controller is Villa Chris House Watamu, based at Jacaranda Street, Plot No. 1119, Kilifi/Jimba, Watamu, Kenya. For any request concerning this privacy notice or the processing of your personal data, you may contact the controller at the email address villachrishouse@gmail.com or via WhatsApp at +39 335 5814 243.

Data Collected

This site collects personal data exclusively in the following cases:

  • Contact form and booking request. When you fill in the form on the site (for example on the Contact page or on the individual room pages), you voluntarily provide us with: your full name, email address, phone number, check-in and check-out dates, number of guests and any accompanying message. At present the form is an interface that displays a confirmation message upon submission: the request will be routed to the controller by email once this functionality has been completed on the technical side; in the meantime, we invite you to also contact us directly by email or WhatsApp to make sure your request is received.
  • Embedded map (Google Maps). The Contact page includes a map provided by Google Maps via an iframe, which may set its own cookies or collect technical data (such as the IP address) according to its own policies, independently of our site. For more information, please refer to the Google Privacy Policy.
  • WhatsApp link (click-to-chat). The buttons and links that open a WhatsApp chat (wa.me) do not collect data on behalf of our site: once the WhatsApp app or website is opened, WhatsApp/Meta's own terms and privacy policy apply.
  • Technical browsing data. As with most websites, the server hosting the site may automatically log certain technical data (e.g. IP address, browser, pages visited) solely for the operation and security of the service. The site does not install third-party statistical analysis or marketing tools (see the Cookie Policy for details).

Purposes and Legal Basis for Processing

The data collected through the contact form is processed for the following purposes:

  • Responding to requests for information and managing booking requests (legal basis: performance of pre-contractual measures requested by the data subject, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Complying with any legal obligations connected with the operation of an accommodation facility (legal basis: legal obligation, Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR, where applicable).
  • Protecting the security of the site and preventing abuse (legal basis: legitimate interest of the controller, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Providing data through the form is optional, but necessary in order to follow up on your request for information or booking: without such data it will not be possible to respond to you.

Data Retention Period

Data collected through the contact form is retained for the time necessary to handle the request and any resulting stay, and in any event for no longer than 24 months from the last contact, except where longer retention obligations are provided for by law (for example, for accounting or tax purposes).

Transfer of Data Outside the European Union

Villa Chris House Watamu is a business based in Kenya. Personal data collected through the site may therefore be processed and stored outside the European Economic Area, in Kenya, on the devices and tools (email, WhatsApp) used by the controller to handle requests. Although Kenya is not the subject of an adequacy decision by the European Commission, the controller adopts reasonable organisational measures to protect the data received and processes it exclusively for the purposes set out in this notice. Data subjects wishing to obtain further information about these measures may contact the controller at the addresses indicated above.

Rights of the Data Subject

As a data subject, you have the right to request at any time, by contacting the controller at villachrishouse@gmail.com:

  • access to your personal data;
  • rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • erasure of data (right to be forgotten), within the limits provided for by law;
  • restriction of processing;
  • objection to processing;
  • data portability, where technically applicable.

If you believe that the processing of your data infringes applicable law, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority competent in your country of residence (for Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali — www.garanteprivacy.it).

Changes to This Notice

This privacy notice may be updated over time, for example in the event of changes to how the site or the contact form operates. The date of the last update is indicated at the top of the page.
